Our first Summit Luncheon was a rousing success with over 500 guests and speakers, including Incoming Chair of the Women’s Legislative Caucus Patty Berg, Keynote Speaker Joan Williams and welcoming remarks from our Platinum Sponsors: Diana Bonta, Kaiser Permanente, and Jeanine Meyer, representing SEIU-UHW.   The Summit panels helped launch the legislative session by unveiling policy proposals on issues affecting California's working families, including child care, preschool, after-school care, cash assistance, child support, EITC, food stamps, and workplace policy. One panel presented recommendations from four statewide organizations, calling on the Governor and State legislature to continue last year’s productive focus on foster care and specifically explore additional measures to prevent entrance into foster care. In 2007, the Summit also added an additional focus on local implementation with a break-out panel on Combating Obesity through Nutrition Education and Physical Activity: Promising Practices for Local Leaders.   We were honored to have Speaker of the Assembly Fabian Núñez open our afternoon panel and present background on his health care proposal.
