California Working Families Policy Summit -
2003
Hosted by the California Center for Research on Women and
Families, the California Working Families Policy Summit 2003 was
held on Friday, January 24, at the Sacramento Convention Center.
More than 550 state, legislative, and community leaders
participated.
The mission of the California Working Families Policy Summit
is to assemble leading policy analysts, advocates, and
legislative stakeholders and to provide them with timely,
practical policy options and information on issues identified as
priority concerns for working families in California.
We were honored to have our founding co-sponsors – the
California Legislative Women's Caucus and the California
Commission on the Status of Women – continue their support.
Summit 2003 was also
co-sponsored by the Asian Pacific Islander, Black,
Latino, LGBT, and Smart Growth Legislative Caucuses, as well as
by 45 nonprofit organizations. The Summit was funded in part by
the California Nutrition Network and was also supported by First
5 California/Children and Families Commission and The California
Endowment.
Policy
options were presented in many areas that affect the lives of
California’s working families:
Taking
Care of Our Children (preschool, child care, after-school care);
Taking
Care of Our Families (nutrition, physical activity, health
care); and
Communities that Work for Working Families (land use, workplace
issues, tax policy)
Below, in downloadable format, are the materials made
available at the Summit, including the program/invitation,
speaker biographies, and a list of our sponsors and supporters.
Also, listed by issue area, are the recommendations, legislative
histories, lists of key publications, and stakeholder lists.
Staff and consultants who supported Summit 2003 deserve
considerable thanks. They include, Cathy Murnighan, Summit
Coordinator, and Joni Pitcl, Summit Consultant. Also, we were
fortunate to partner with a number of talented graduate students
from the Goldman School of Public Policy at U.C. Berkeley. They
managed the development or updating of our briefing materials.
Many thanks to Kelly Abbett, Debra Solomon, Deanna Niebuhr,
Michelle Byrnes, and Sarah Durant.
