From Brandy Davis, Policy Coordinator of Labor Project for Working Families:
In February 2009 the Healthy Workplaces, Healthy Families Act (AB 1000) was introduced in the California Assembly. AB 1000 is sponsored by the California Labor Federation and California ACORN, and is championed by Assemblywoman Fiona Ma.
AB 1000 will ensure that all workers in California can earn and use paid sick days for personal illness, to care for a sick family member or to recover from domestic violence or sexual assault, without fear of losing their jobs. AB 1000 was successfully passed by the Assembly Labor and Employment Committee and the Assembly Judiciary Committee, moving California forward in becoming the first state in the nation to guarantee paid sick days for all its workers. AB 1000 will now progress to the Assembly Appropriations Committee. To learn more about the campaign, visit our website at www.paidsickdaysCA.org.
